More Women Own Guns, Purchase More Firearms

Las Vegas –  According to a new report released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation at the 2015 SHOT Show, self-defense still remains the number one reason why women purchase their first firearm. Home-defense comes in second.

The report, which comes from a study conducted in 2014, focused “on women ages 18 to 65 who owned at least one firearm.” Over a third of the women involved in the study were new gun owners who have “purchased their first firearm within the last three years.” Among this new group of gun owners, most are between the ages of 18 and 34.

Women are the fastest growing demographic of firearms owners and those getting involved in the shooting sports. According to the study, women who obtain training spend significantly more money on firearms and accessories than those who not have training. Women with training spend on average $1,373 per year on firearms and accessories each year while women without training spend an average of $767. Between 2012 and 2013, 74 percent of retailers reported an increase in female customers.

Report Findings:

  1. Women say their purchases are mainly influenced by Fit, Quality and Practicality.

  2. Women purchasing a gun in the last 12 months spent on average $870 on firearms and more than $400 on accessories.

  3. The majority of women report they are not driven to buy a gun on impulse but rather considered their purchase for months before deciding.

  4. Nearly all women (95 percent) have tried target shooting, and more than half (58 percent) have hunted.

  5. More than 42 percent of women have a concealed carry permit for their state of residence.

  6. Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of women reported having taken at least one training class.

  7. 43 percent of women shoot once per month or more

  8. The shooting participation of females has gone from 5,350,000 in 2006 to 7,587,000 in 2013 and now make up 24 percent of the total shooting participation population

“The women’s market is a force in our industry, and manufacturers, retailers and shooting ranges are making changes to their products and services to satisfy women’s tastes and needs. This report will assist anyone interested in knowing more about women’s enthusiasm for and attitudes toward firearms,” NSSF Director of Industry Research and Analysis Jim Curcuruto released in a statement. “In the past decade, the number of women owning firearms and participating in target shooting and hunting has soared. This study helps us understand why women are choosing to purchase firearms and accessories and what shooting activities appeal to them most.”

“All of the trending that we’re talking about with women and guns is only going to continue,” Smith & Wesson team captain and world shooting champion Julie Golob said during a press conference Wednesday.

With the threats of stricter Gun Control laws and even the threat of banning certain firearms, Credit Card Processing Companies have been making it very difficult to get a Merchant Account. In fact they have been imposing Volume Restrictions and even closing good merchants who have been in business for many years. This is because the bank card processors fear getting hit by hundreds of chargebacks from Gun & Ammo Dealers who can’t fulfill their orders. This is a good time to find a “2nd Amendment Friendly” Credit Card Processor Who Understands the Gun & Ammo Business.

How To Clean Your Firearms

Clean Your firearms! Many feeding, firing, and accuracy problems can be corrected by cleaning your gun. Simply running a brush through the bore a few times, followed by a Clean firearmscouple of patches and then spraying the action with a little WD-40 is not cleaning. It is a slow methodical destruction of a considerable investment. Like everything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it! Clean Your firearms! You want to have fun, not frustration at the target range. You want to bag that trophy buck. You definitely want that firearms to work when, God forbid, you’re defending your home from an intruder.

If the firearm fails to fire in that situation, you probably won’t live to regret it anyway. Neither will your family. (Of course, you can hide in your room and wait for your local overworked and understaffed police force to come to your rescue. But that’s another subject.) Clean Your firearms!

Cleaning Tips –

Use a bronze wire brush for normal bore cleaning. When removing copper, heavy lead fouling, or plastic shotfirearms wad fouling use a nylon brush with Shooters Choice or similar bore cleaner. (Shooters Choice is a powerful bore cleaner, will eat bronze brushes.)
Run the bronze brush through the bore once for every round fired. (I prefer Hoppes #9 solvent for light cleaning).
If you are serious about the care of your firearms invest in a coated steel or brass cleaning rod. Aluminum rods are soft. They collect grit and particles that can scratch the bore.
Wipe the rod off after every pass through the bore.
Use a brass jag to push patches through the bore. Dragging a dirty patch in a slotted tip back through the bore is not what I call cleaning.
Use a bore guide or brass “bumper” to protect the chamber or muzzle crown from damage.
Clean the action with a blast of pressurized solvent such as Gun Scrubber by Birchwood Casey. It cleans without leaving a residue.
Oil Lightly! Oil attracts dirt! If you can see oil, you probably oiled too much!

If you’re concerned that you’ve oiled too much, try storing your firearms with the barrel down. Many people think the more solvent the better. However, this will damage the firearm. Use only the solvent that the patch will absorb. If you see too much, the solvent or oil will drip down into the trigger mechanism. This will cause a gummy trigger. If you use too much oil, it will drain back toward the stock and cause premature failure of the wood. This will prevent oil or solvent from seeping into the wooden stock.
Strip clean about every 800 rounds or so. If you don’t know how and don’t have an owners manual, take the firearms to a gun smith. It doesn’t cost that much. (It’s cheaper than having him replace that spring that went flying into the recesses of your oh so clean garage or basement work room).

Finally, you really should wear safety goggles whenever you are working with gun-cleaning solvents. Even the not-so-toxic types are dissolving some very nasty stuff which can do some significant and permanent damage to your irreplaceable eyeballs if it lands in your eyes. As you run the bore brush in and out of the bore, the stuff is going to spray around a bit no matter how careful you are, so you do need full eye protection.

Obama Gun-Ban – Wants Restrictions on Assault Weapons, Ammo and Magazines

Mr. Obama called Wednesday for Congress to approve new bans on military-style  Gun banassault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines in response to a string of deadly mass shootings.

At a White House event where Obama was flanked by children who had written letters of sympathy to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the president unveiled an expansive plan that includes legislation and 23 “executive actions” the White House said could be put into place immediately.

On Wednesday, administration officials insisted the president was serious.

“I don’t think there’s anything that anyone in this administration has said in the past month that would indicate we’re looking to duck a tough political fight on this,” a senior administration official said. “The president is backing up his strong words.”

Executive actions planned by Obama include ordering the Centers for Disease control to resume research into gun violence despite a congressional ban preventing the agency of producing work that would advocate or promote gun control. Obama is also asking Congress for $10 million toward those research efforts.

A senior administration official said Wednesday that the president’s legal team had concluded Obama had the authority to order research despite the congressional ban.

The gun-ban-list proposal:
Rifles (or copies or duplicates):
M1 Carbine,
Sturm Ruger Mini-14,

(iv) a forward grip; or a barrel shroud.
Any semiautomatic rifle with a fixed magazine that can accept more than
10 rounds (except tubular magazine .22 rim fire rifles).
A semiautomatic pistol that has the ability to accept a
detachable magazine, and has:
(i) a second pistol grip,
(ii) a threaded barrel,
(iii) a barrel shroud or
(iv) can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip, and
(v) a semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10
A semiautomatic shotgun with:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock,
(ii) a pistol grip (see definition below),
(iii) the ability to accept a detachable magazine or a fixed magazine capacity
of more than 5 rounds, and
(iv) a shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
Frames or receivers for the above are included, along with conversion kits.
Attorney General gets carte blanche to ban guns at will: Under the proposal, the U.S. Attorney General can add any “semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General.”
Note that Obama’s pick for this office, Eric Holder, wrote a brief in the Heller case supporting the position that you have no right to have a working firearm in your own home. In making this determination, the bill says, “there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.” In plain English this means that ANY firearm ever obtained by federal officers or the military is not suitable for the public.

Ammo Dealer – Wholesale Ammo Dealers – Ammo for Sale

Online ammunition sales are legal

Under federal law, firearms dealers must obtain federal licenses and keep records of their weapons transactions, but there’s virtually no federal regulation of ammunition suppliers or Ammosales – though there was before 1986. Adults who want to stockpile large amounts of ammo can buy it from dozens of websites that specialize in bulk sales, often at low prices. Some sites hawk magazines that fire up to 100 rounds without reloading, which critics argue have been tied to deadly mass shootings and should be outlawed.

The 1986 Firearm Owners’ Protection Act made retail interstate shipments of ammunition legal. The law allowed ammunition to be shipped to individuals through the mail and eliminated prior record-keeping requirements.

Online retailers make up a relatively new and fast-growing segment of the $2.8 billion ammunition industry. And after the mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., they’re now in the spotlight.

Cartridge Sizes

Ammunition comes in different lengths, shapes, and diameters depending on the type of bullet or case used. If the case is really small, chances are it is a .22 rimfire cartridge.

Years ago a wide variety of rimfire cartridges were available. Today, only .22 rimfire cartridges are commercially available. They can come in 22 short, long, long rifle, and magnum lengths. You will have to learn how to identify them by reading the information on the ammunition box as the data stamp is not on the base of the cartridge.

22 Hornet and 222 Remington use a .22 caliber bullet but use a centerfire cartridge case.

A rimfire cartridge will travel 1300 feet per second while a centerfire cartridge will do over 2000 feet per second. The centerfire case is bigger than the rimfire case and holds more powder.

Common Ammo Sizes:

Rimfire Cartridges
.22 Short.
.22 Long Rifle
.22 Mag.
Centerfire Cartridges
.22 Hornet
.222 Remington
.223 Remington
.22-250 Remington
.243 Winchester
.264 Winchester Magnum
.270 Winchester

Ammo Industry:

While the total ammunition industry is worth about $5 billion, sales to non-military consumers make up about $2.3 billion of that, according to Bruce Hammond, director of marketing and communications of the National Sporting Goods Association.

Ammunition and firearms sales have been strong throughout the recession. Some enthusiasts are stockpiling amid fears that legislation restricting firearms could be coming down the spike during the Democratic administration.

Ammo Dealers – Wholesale Ammo Dealer – Ammo for Sale Online

The biggest ammunition manufacturer in the U.S. is the Freedom Group, a holding company that includes Remington, Bushmaster, Barnes Bullets and other well-known firearms brands. The company, which is owned by Cerberus Capital.

This unprecedented demand for guns and ammunition has caused the prices of guns and ammo to soar and limit selections for buyers. Many hunters that enjoy the shooting sports have found wasting ammo on sports like skeet or even dove hunting is just too costly in today’s world.

In contrast to the huge numbers of gun buyers, some U.S. cities have started sponsoring “gun buy backs,” and there are long lines of gun owners waiting to turn over personally-owned guns to the city police. In return, the buy back programs give $1 for every long gun or hand gun turned in and up to $10 for every “assault rifle” turned over to the local city government to be destroyed. The TV stations relish in showing the long lines of cars (license numbers displayed) waiting so that their owners can have their guns destroyed.

A New York newspaper published the names and addresses of all gun owners who have been issued a concealed carry permit in their area. They’ve even published a map showing the exact location of all the concealed carry holders’ home locations.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama vowed to send Congress policy proposals for reducing gun violence by January. The president also called on Congress to reinstate an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and to pass legislation that would close a gun-show “loophole” that allows people to purchase firearms from private dealers without a background check.

Ammunition is a generic term derived from the French language la munition which embraced all material used for war (from the Latin munire, to provide), but which in time came to refer specifically to gunpowder and artillery. The collective term for all types of ammunition is munitions. In the widest sense of the word it covers anything that can be used in combat that includes bombs, missiles, warheads, and mines (landmines, naval mines, and anti-personnel mines)—that munitions factories manufacture. The purpose of ammunition is predominantly to project force against a selected target. However, the nature of ammunition use also includes delivery or combat supporting munitions such as pyrotechnic or incendiary compounds. Since the design of the cartridge, the meaning has been transferred to the assembly of a projectile and its propellant in a single package. The subject of ammunition is a complex one which covers application of fire to targets, general use of weapons by personnel, explosives and propellants, cartridge systems, high explosive projectiles (HE), warheads, shaped charge forms of attack on armour and aircraft, carrier projectiles, fuzes, mortar ammunition, small arms ammunition, grenades, mines, pyrotechnics, improved conventional munitions, and terminally guided munition.

Gun Control Group to Sue Online Gun Sales Company

Gun control advocates filed a groundbreaking lawsuit in Chicago Wednesday seeking to  Gun control online gun salesmake companies that sell firearms over the Internet more accountable.

The lawsuit filed by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence specifically names Armslist.com, an Internet gun website that links gun sellers with potential buyers.

It was filed on behalf of the family of 36-year-old Jitka Vesel, a former Chicago elementary school teacher who was killed last year by a stalker. According to the complaint, the killer purchased the gun illegally in a sale facilitated by Armslist.

The lawsuit is the first of its kind against a gun website for causing a shooting, but attorneys said they hope the case will lead to stricter government controls for Internet gun sales that currently are largely unregulated.

“Gun sellers and website operators who knowingly funnel guns to killers and criminals must be held accountable,” said Jonathan Lowy, the Brady Center’s legal action project director and counsel for the family. “We as a nation are better than an anonymous Internet gun market where killers and criminals can easily get guns.”

According to the complaint, Vesel, an immigrant from the Czech Republic, was shot and killed by Demetry Smirnov, a Russian immigrant residing in Canada who had met Vesel online three years earlier. He stalked her to the parking lot of the Czechoslovak Heritage Museum, where she worked as a volunteer, and shot her 11 to 12 times with a .40-caliber handgun.

Smirnov was convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence in prison, Lowy said.

Lowry said that sales conducted over the Internet often have been linked to illegal gun trafficking, sales to minors as well as mass shootings at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University.
